A color story
We're finally at my favorite part: painting! As a longtime renter, it feels freeing to finally be able to paint the walls whatever color I want.
Our house is small, so we need a consistent color story throughout the main house. We'll draw on it and tweak it for specific rooms and spaces.
Rebecca Atwood's book on pattern got me thinking about what I want from our home, and how that translates to color:
- I want home to be peaceful, calming, and restful.
- I want to feel like I'm outside in the shade on a sunny afternoon. Blue is my favorite color for achieving this feeling.
- I associate bright whites and cool grays with cleanliness and order.
- Friends should feel welcomed and invited in, so the color palette shouldn't be too cool.
My resulting color palette is grounded in cool neutrals (white, gray, black). Then it's brightened with indigo blue, and warmed with wood and brass.
The color palette that I'll use throughout the home.
For inspiration, here are images that match what I have in mind.
