Baby v Contractor
Could we finish the house before the baby came? An average first baby would have arrived the last week of November, and our house was scheduled to be completed by the end of September. This schedule should have given us plenty of time to settle in before the baby came.
Unfortunately, neither babies nor contractors like schedules. Our house schedule slipped... and then slipped again... with our move-in date tentatively scheduled for November 11. Then my water broke, and sweet baby Emerson came on November 5. Whoops!
The house is being painted right now, and our furniture is being moved in tomorrow. We'll be able to start living there as soon as the paint fumes clear, although we'll need to co-exist with the remaining renovation tasks.
What do you do when you have a baby and no place to live? We're staying at a dog-friendly hotel. It's a little studio with a living area and kitchen. We've been enjoying the housekeeping and hotel breakfasts. On my last day in the hospital, M set up the hotel room with our nursery furniture and clothing. Funny enough, we aren't the only ones -- there's another couple down the hall with a new baby, waiting for their house project to finish.
