Neutral, modern dog beds

Every room of our house has a dog bed, in an optimistic bid to keep the dog off our furniture. It doesn't quite work -- I still catch her sound asleep on our pillows and in our laundry baskets when she doesn't think we're looking. (And truth be told, I invite her up onto the couch or bed when I'm cold.)

Every time I see a Clyfford Still painting, I think of this dog bed in my living room.

Dogs generally prefer beds with edges. The edges are comfortable to lean against and keep warmth in the dog bed. Unfortunately, they also make it very hard to wash the dog bed, so I limit how many of these we own. Pet mats are sometimes a compromise, with slightly raised edges but an overall flat profile. Flat dog beds are easier to clean. The slipcover comes off in the wash, and I periodically replace the stuffing (with old pillows, towels, or unwanted clothing). Here are my favorites (click the images for more details):

Fingers crossed that a few new dog beds will convince her to stay off our new shag rug. Or at least keep her butt off my pillows.

Sleeping in our bed instead of her dog bed. Oh well.
